Field trip to Diavik Mine and Yellowknife
On Monday 6th June, four KiDs members (Andrea Giuliani, Ashton Soltys, Suzette Timmerman and Henrietta Farr) attended the field trip prior to the International Diamond School 2016 held in Edmonton. The trip included a day visit to either the Ekati or Diavik diamond mines and then a tour of the geology of the Yellowknife region on Tuesday 7th June. Our group attended the Diavik mine visit which included a full tour of all of the processing and recovery facilities, one of the pits, the core shack and around the site
At the time of our visit the sunrise was ~3:45am with sunset at 11:30pm.

Around Yellowknife we observed Archaen pillow basalts at the Giant mine, coarse granites and lamprophyre and diabase dykes.
